Peter Forton

After graduating from McGill University in Montreal in 1976, Peter began his 35 year career in the financial services industry in the commercial banking sector, transitioning into venture capital and private equity in 1986. He has a broad spectrum of experience from seed stage ventures through to later stage buyout and expansion financings and IPO’s at both national and regional levels in Canada. In 2008 Peter assumed his role as Managing Director of CAPE Fund (Capital for Aboriginal Prosperity and Entrepreneurship), a $50 million, socially responsible investment fund, established to encourage Aboriginal entrepreneurship and capacity building in Canada. The Fund is the vision of former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and his son David and is backed by 18 of Canada’s leading corporations as well as 3 international foundations.

Peter is a former president and past director of the Canadian Venture Capital Association and is currently a director of One Earth Farms, Coastal Shellfish Corporation and Indigena Solutions Inc.
